Chicago shootings: Tracking gun violence in 2024

Three people were shot on a West Side sidewalk on Monday afternoon, Chicago police said.

Police said the drive-by shooting happened in the West Garfield Park neighborhood's 0-100-block of South Kostner Avenue just after 1 p.m.

Three men, ages 39, 43 and 46, were on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up, and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The 43-year-old victim, shot in the head, was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The 39-year-old victim, shot in the back, was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

The 46-year-old victim, shot in the leg, was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition.

Area Four detectives are investigating.

Police did not immediately provide further information.

A man was shot to death in a South Side alley on Sunday morning, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the South Chicago neighborhood's 8000-block of South Escanaba Avenue just after 9:15 a.m.

A 48-year-old man was standing in an alley when someone shot him, police said.

The victim was transported in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

No one is in custody and Area Two detectives are investigating.

A suspect exchanged gunfire with a Chicago police officer after allegedly shooting someone on the West Side early Saturday, officials said.

CPD said officers responded to a call about shots fired near North and Waller avenues in the North Austin neighborhood around 12:45 a.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw someone shooting at a person on the ground, police said.

Police said the person shooting then fired at the responding officers, striking their squad car. One officer returned fire.

It was not immediately clear how many rounds were fired.

The suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody a short time later, police said.

Police said the person on the ground suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition.

No officers were injured, and three guns were recovered from the scene.

Charges against the suspect are pending.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is now investigating the use of force, and the officers involved will be placed on routine administrative leave.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.

A person is in custody in a South Chicago homicide investigation, Chicago police said.

The shooting happened at about 4:32 a.m. in the 8400-block of Kingston Avenue in the South Chicago neighborhood.

A man, 24, was shot in the stomach. He was taken to University of Chicago Hospital where he died.

One person was taken into custody. Charges were pending.
