Police have instructed city businessman and philanthropist Mike Ezra to appear in court for a wild bash in appreciation of his relentless donation of priceless cheques to needy and chequeless Ugandans. The party, themed “With cheques, who needs money?” is being hosted by Mr. Frank Katusiime and his brother Dr. Charles Mushabe who were given priceless cheques worth Shs2 billion.
It is reported that the priceless cheques have the incredible ability to bounce if someone tried to cash them. When Mr. Katusiime cashed the first cheque worth $500,000 at Stanbic Bank, it amazingly bounced after which he excitedly jumped out of his seat screaming “awesome”, and called the police to organize the party.
The police invite comes as Ezra is still nursing a hangover caused by an even wilder party thrown by the Uganda Revenue Authority and National Bank of Commerce as gratitude for his admirable ability to evade income tax worth Shs1.2 billion. By the time of issuance of the invite, Mr. Ezra was reportedly out of the country and therefore not able to attend.
Criminal Investigations Directorate crime intelligence boss and chief party planner Elly Womanya said that though the Police had not established Ezra’s whereabouts, there was suspicion that the reports to the effect that he was out of the country were his own creation. “He’s probably too shy and not used to this kind of adoration but we seriously cannot let such kindness go unnoticed. The after-party will be at Luzira. We will hunt him and get him to attend,” he said.
Womanya’s statement comes just a day after CID director and manager in charge of drinks Edward Ochom said the police “desperately wants” Ezra to get high and therefore vowed to find him. “No good deed goes unpunished. He is a true philanthropist and we have to punish him,” he joked. “But seriously, we need to find him.”
The police have promised free ‘drink and drive’ passes to any member of the public with information that may lead to the court party attendance of Ezra.
